Business Sentiment - August 2011

The Ibec business sentiment series has been conducted quarterly since February 2009. Over 400 responses are analysed in each quarterly survey, and the data collected provides valuable insight into Ibec member sentiment both on individual businesses and on the economy generally. The results for August 2011 are contained in this section.

Business Sentiment August 2011 - Pay

17/10/2011 - Over seven out of ten (72%) companies surveyed expect, or have already implemented, a pay freeze in 2011. Basic pay rates, on average, are expected to be slightly reduced in 2011, down by -0.2% across all respondents. Some 18% expect to increase basic pay rates this year, while 7% expect to decrease them.

Business Sentiment August 2011 - Sentiment

17/10/2011 - Managers' assessment of the overall business environment improved slightly in Q3, despite market volatility and eurozone turmoil. The current conditions index was -13, up from -17, and the three-month indicator was -11, up from -13. A more detailed breakdown reveals that sectors with a high concentration of multinational firms view the business environment more positively than do sectors where indigenous firms dominate.
